Item No.: 8348 Price : SOLD
Item : VERY FINE, COLT MODEL 1877 "LIGHTNING" DA .38 REVOLVER
Description :
This is an original, Colt Model 1877 "Lightning" Double Action Revolver chambered for the .38 Colt cartridge. The Lightning was manufactured from 1877-1909 with a total of 166,849 produced. This particular revolver is an antique, made in 1888. These revolvers were quite popular in their day. Billy the Kid (William Bonney) was carrying a Lightning the night he was shot by Pat Garrett. John Wesley Hardin carried this pistol in .44 caliber (known as the "Thunderer"). This pistol has a 4 1/2" barrel with ejector. The pistol is in very fine condition. It retains about 60% of its factory blued finish. There is some finish wear on the sides of the barrel and on the back grip strap. There is some light flaking of the blue in other areas. There is some light finish wear on the cylinder. The frame retains about 90-95% of its case color. The screws all have their fire blued finish. The bore is excellent, bright and shiny. The mechanics are also excellent, a rarity for this model. The hard rubber grips with the oval "Rampant Colt" emblem are equally fine with no chips, cracks, or damage. The grips have a brownish hue. The "Lightning" and "Thunderer" have always been one of my favorite Old West firearms. This is a really nice example! Stock no. 21954
