ANTIQUE, U.S. MODEL 1892/96 KRAG JORGENSEN RIFLE

This is an original, U.S. Model 1892/96 Krag Jorgensen Rifle. Originally produced as a Model 1892, it was manufactured in 1894 and then arsenal converted to the Model 1896 configuration. It is chambered for the .30-40 Government cartridge. This rifle is in fine condition, with about 85% of its factory blued finish remaining. The bolt and bolt handle have developed a brown patina. The barrel bands are beginning to brown. The mechanics work very well. The bore is dark and frosty, but exhibits strong rifling along its length. The M1896 style stock is very good overall with the usual small dings from use. There are a few more significant scratches on the left side of the butt. A remnant of the cartouche is faintly visible, but unreadable. The original 3-piece cleaning rod is in the butt trap. These early antique Krag rifles are hard to find. Stock no. 20743
