VERY FINE, AU LION, FRENCH PRODUCED, U.S. MK. I TRENCH KNIFE AND SCABBARD

This is an original, WWI, Mk. I Trench Knife produced by "Au Lion" in France for U.S. troops. The French made Mk. I knives were the only ones to make it to the troops during WWI. The American made knives were put into storage at the war's end and issued in large numbers during WWII. This knife is in very fine condition. The bright blade has acquired a faint silvery brown patina. There is a small area of corrosion on the left side near the tip of the blade. The ricasso stamping of a recumbent lion over "AU LION" is crisp. The handle has a nice golden brass patina. The correct, French made scabbard retains both hooks and has a brown patina overall. There are some very small dents from use. If you are a WWI collector, this is the knife that made it to the trenches with the doughboys. Stock no. 20846
