1862 DATED, SPRINGFIELD U.S. MODEL 1861 RIFLE MUSKET

This is an original, U.S. Model 1861 Rifle Musket manufactured at Springfield Armory in 1862, The Model 1861 was the primary Union arm of the Civil War. This one is in very good condition. The metal has a steel patina with a speckling of dark brown. There is heavier pitting around the bolster and on the face of the lock plate. The butt plate is a solid dark brown. The mechanics work well. The bore is dark with significant pitted areas. I believe it will clean up to a large degree, but there will still be pits. The stock has a hairline crack through the wrist. The remainder has just a few small dings from use. Two faint cartouches are visible on the left flat of the stock. This would be a great display piece for the person wanting a Civil War musket above the fireplace. Stock no. 20703
