Description :

This is an original Remington New Model Army .44 Caliber Percussion Revolver. The Remington was the 2nd most used revolver of the Civil War with about 106,000 produced. With its integral backstrap above the cylinder, the Remington was a much stronger design than the Colt Model 1860 revolver. Many felt it was a better design overall. This revolver is in good condition. There are traces of the original blued finish remaining, but the remainder of the pistol has a mottled silver and black patina. This pistol has been cleaned a good bit. The mechanics work, but the cylinder does not quite turn all the way to the locked position. The bore is a little dark with some some pitting in a couple of places, but visible rifling shows throughout. The grips show a bit of wear at the high points and a few tiny dings from use. The Inspector's cartouche remains visible on the left grip. This is a decent Remington New Model Army, a pistol that was probably the best revolver of the Civil War. Stock no. 20702
