Item :	ENGLISH BARNETT 2-BAND .577 CALIBER MUSKETOON

Description :

This is a British Pattern 1856 2-Band Short Musketoon of .577 Caliber and made by Barnett of London. These short musketoons were intended for cavalry and artillery use. This is an export quality gun, with no military acceptance markings. It was guns of this type that were sent through the blockade to the Confederacy. The South favored these short British carbines and imported several thousand of them. Note that there are no markings on this gun that prove Confederate usage. This carbine is in very fine condition. It retains most of its dark blue finish on the barrels and bands. The lock and hammer have a light brown patina. The lock plate is simply marked "BARNETT" over "LONDON". The bore and mechanics are excellent. The bore is bright and shiny with strong rifling. The stock has a light brown coloration with an oiled finish. There a re a few small dings and scratches from use. There is a "BARNETT GUNMAKERS - LONDON" cartouche on the right side of the butt. The brass furniture has a dull bronze patina. This is an excellent example of a British arm that was exported all over the world. It would be a great musketoon for someone who like to shoot the originals! Stock no. 20708
