EARLY 1861 PRODUCTION COLT MODEL 1851 NAVY .36 REVOLVER
Description :
This is a Colt Model 1851 Navy .36 caliber percussion revolver manufactured in early 1861. In 1860 and early 1861 The South saw the writing on the wall and ordered large numbers of '51 Navies while they could still get them. This gun, found in Virginia and made in early 1861, may quite possibly be one of the revolvers sent to the south just prior to the war. This revolver is all matching, including the wedge. It is in very good condition. The steel is a pewter color with an overall speckling of brown patina and some light pitting. The mechanics work very well. The bore has some light pitting, but strong rifling throughout. The grips have some wear and dings from use. The butt looks as if it was used for some light hammering. This is a decent Colt Navy with possible Confederate usage. Stock no. 20699
