CIVIL WAR, REMINGTON NEW MODEL ARMY .44 REVOLVER
Description :
This is an original Remington New Model Army .44 Caliber Percussion Revolver. The Remington was the 2nd most used revolver of the Civil War with about 106,000 produced. With its integral backstrap above the cylinder, the Remington was a much stronger design than the Colt Model 1860 revolver. Many felt it was a better design overall. This revolver is in very good condition. Only traces of the original blued finish remain. The remainder of the pistol has a mottled pewter and brown patina. The mechanics are excellent. The bore has some light pitting in a couple of places, but visible rifling throughout. The grips show a bit of wear at the high points and a few tiny dings from use. The Inspector's cartouche remains visible on the left grip. There are numerous sub-inspector initials on the metal parts of the gun. This is a solid example of the Remington New Model Army, probably the best revolver of the Civil War. Stock no. 20701
