Here is an original, U.S. Model 1861 Rifle Musket produced in 1862 at Springfield Armory. If any musket can claim the title of the standard musket of the Civil War, it is the Model 1861. Springfield only produced these for two years, switching to the Model 1863 in that year. Contractor's continued to build them until war's end. Springfield manufactured rifle muskets have become highly desirable. This musket is in very fine, untouched, original condition. The metal has a very smooth light brown patina, having never been cleaned. The bore is near excellent, with just a tiny speck or two of corrosion. The mechanics are excellent. The stock has a few dings and scratches from use and storage. There is an inspector's cartouche on the left flat of the stock. It is faint, but visible. There are some scratched-in letters on the right side of the butt. The lock on this rifle is dated 1861 and the barrel 1862. Included is an original, correct M-1855 bayonet. Condition matches the musket well. This is a very nice, un-touched M-1861 rifle musket. #20621
