SCARCE, MODEL 1877 U.S. "TRAPDOOR" .45-70 RIFLE

This is an original, Model 1877 U.S. "Trapdoor" .45-70 Rifle manufactured at Springfield Armory in 1877. Only about 20,000 of these rifles were produced before adoption of the Model 1879. This was actually a transitional model, bridging the gap between the 1873 and the 1879 models. It incorporates features that would be used in the M1879. This rifle is in fine condition with more than 90% of its factory blued finish remaining. There is some wear on the muzzle from having a bayonet fixed. The stock furniture has some light wear on the high points. The breech block is dark, but has visible case colors. The bore and mechanics are excellent. The stock is fine with just a few tiny dings from use and storage. The is a an 1877 dated cartouche on the left side of the stock. There are a couple of small dings across the cartouche, but it is still visible. This is a very scarce variation of the Trapdoor Springfield.
