BEAUTIFUL, ORIGINAL, SPRINGFIELD ARMORY MODEL 1903 SPORTER STAR GAUGED .30-06 RIFLE

This is an original, U.S. Model 1903 Sporting Rifle produced at Springfield Armory in 1925. These rifles were Armory produced as target rifles and are of superb quality. They featured star gauged barrels, pistol grip sporter stocks, special butt plate, and Lyman adjustable rear peep sights. This rifle is in very fine to excellent condition. It retains more than 95% of its factory blued finish. There are some specks of corrosion on the underside of the barrel. The bolt remains factory bright. The stock is excellent. The barrel is dated "10-25". The bore on the star gauged barrel is excellent as are the mechanics. And now the bad news! Some wag decided that it would be a good idea to take this pristine Springfield rifle and drill and tap the receiver for a scope. So, there are two small holes on the front receiver ring, right over the markings. They have been filled with small cap screws. I suspect there might be a hole under the Lyman sight as well. A pox on him and his family! Even with the drilled holes, this is as nice a 1903 Sporter as I have seen in years.
