FINE, ANTIQUE, SPRINGFIELD U.S. MODEL 1896 KRAG RIFLE

This is an original, Springfield U.S. Model 1896 Krag-Jorgensen Rifle chambered for the .30-40 Government cartridge. All Model 1896 Krags were produced prior to 1898 and are considered antiques. This rifle is in fine, untouched condition. It retains about 80% of its factory blued finish. There is wear on the barrel bands, left side of the receiver, and the butt plate. The mechanics and bore are excellent. The stock is very fine with a light cartouche on the left side and a Script "P" just behind the trigger guard. The stock cartouche has visible inspector's initials, but the date is very faint. It is dated 1898. There are three tiny flecks of white paint on the stock. The rifle retains its original oiler and scarce front sight cover. This is a very nice Krag and an antique to boot!
