FINE, METROPOLITAN ARMS CO. POLICE MODEL REVOLVER, .36 CALIBER PERCUSSION

This is an original, Civil War era, Metropolitan Arms Co. Police Model Revolver of .36 caliber. Manufactured in New York City, the Metropolitan Police revolvers were almost exact copies of the Colt Model 1862 Police. Only 2,750 were produced between 1864 and 1866. Profiting from misfortune, the Metropolitan Arms Co. got a huge boost when the Colt factory suffered major fire damage in February, 1864. This revolver has the scarce barrel stamped name and address information. Only 1600 were produced with markings. This revolver is in fine condition and retains about 80% of its factory blued finish. It is all matching including the wedge. The mechanics work well. The bore is a little dark, but has visible rifling along its length. The grips are undamaged with just a few tiny dings from use. Many of these were privately purchased and carried during the war. Quite a few went West as well. This is a very nice example of the Metropolitan Police Model.
