SHARPS NEW MODEL 1863 CAVALRY CARBINE
Description :
Here is a Sharps New Model 1863 Cavalry Carbine of .52 Caliber. These were the most widely used Cavalry Carbines of the Civil War. This is a re-built gun. The stock and forearm are replaced with original wood, and are better than the rest of the gun. I believe both are original Civil War era, but not original to the carbine. The metal has some significant pitting that has been buffed off. The barrel has been re-blued over the pitting. The patchbox has a dark brown patina. The action works well and the carbine locks up tightly. The bore is surprisingly good with a few dark specks but strong rifling throughout. As stated, this is a parts gun rebuild. Model 1863 carbines did not generally have patch boxes and the parts show a varying degree of condition. Still, it displays well and with minimal work, would make a nice shooter.
