U.S. SPRINGFIELD MODEL 1890 TRAPDOOR CAVALRY CARBINE
Description :
Here is a U. S. Trapdoor Cavalry Carbine manufactured by Springfield Armory sometime after 1889. These were produced from various left over parts and intended for issue to the state regiments. They have no inspector's cartouches. This is in fine condition with the proper Buffington Cavalry sight marked with a "C". The carbine retains about 70% of its factory blued finish, with some significant loss on the barrel near the muzzle. This area has some light pitting. There is some pitting on the barrel just along the stock on the right side ay the nose cap. The remainder of the gun shows wear on the high points. The bore is very good with strong rifling, but some very light pitting is visible. The stock has a large chip at the heel of the butt on the right side. The remainder of the stock is excellent. If you want an original trap door carbine to shoot, this may be the one for you.
