FINE CIVIL WAR TYPE II H&P PERCUSSION CONVERSION MUSKET
Description :
.69 Caliber Smoothbore US Martial Long Arm. Converted to percussion by the patent breech method by the firm of Hewes and Phillips of Philadelphia in 1862. Musket started life as a Harpers Ferry US M1816 Flintlock and is still 100% Harpers Ferry with the exception of the H&P conversion. Barrel, lock and funiture are all bright and smooth with a patina of dried grease and oil. This musket would clean to brilliant if so desired. Fine smooth bore. Crisp markings. Harpers Ferry Lock dated 1833. Excellent mechanics. Fine H&P marks and conversion date, 1862. Fine black walnut stock with clear "AR/V" and "V/JAS" cartouches on the left flat. Original sling swivels and ramrod. Ahh! To clean or not to clean, That is the question! Looks great as is. But would be brilliant if cleaned.
